Our Ophthalmologists take the time to discuss your eye health, address any concerns that you may have, and provide detailed treatment options. These discussions are crucial for your understanding and involvement in your eye care, and can take some time. Sometimes urgent cases or unexpected delays can contribute to longer waiting times. While waiting can be frustrating, it is often necessary to ensure thorough and quality care for all our patients.
Nexus Eye Care is a private clinic and does not provide Bulk-Billing services.
The consultation fee will be advised to you at the time of booking. If you require additional tests or procedures on the day, any additional costs will be quoted during your consultation.
Medicare will provide a rebate for some of your consultation fees. This rebate is a set amount by Medicare and in most cases, does not cover the full cost of your consultation. We are here to help you; it is important that you do not cease your treatment due to financial difficulties. If this is the case, please talk to your Ophthalmologist.
You may be required to have eye drops instilled so the doctor can thoroughly assess inside your eye. These eye drops can make your vision a bit blurry and sensitive to the light for a while following your visit, and for this reason and safety, we advise you not to drive after your appointment.
A referral letter is required in order to claim a rebate from Medicare for your consultation.
Referral letters from a GP or Optometrist have a 12-month expiry. This means that if you require another appointment with an Ophthalmologist after 12 months, you will need to get another referral letter. Referral letters from other specialists have a 3-month expiry.
Medicare requires the referral letter to be dated prior to your visit, and cannot be backdated, which means you will have to get your referral prior to your visit.
Private Health Insurance does not cover in-room consultations.
Your consultation fee can be claimed from Medicare. Our friendly receptionists will process this rebate for you on the day of your consultation, and in most cases, Medicare will deposit this back into your bank account immediately.
If you require surgical treatment with one of our Ophthalmologists in a private hospital facility, depending on your level of Private Health Insurance coverage, you may be eligible for a rebate on your surgical procedure. Our team will discuss and explain this with you if required.
